Our team at talech is as diverse as they come. Spanning the globe from Boise, ID to Dublin, Ireland, our employees have a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. We are musicians, knitters, and basketball players. We’ve worked as waiters at chain restaurants and in tech support. But despite our differences, we all have one thing in common: our journey has brought each of us to talech.
Check out our “Meet the Team Series” each month to find out some fun facts about our team and learn more about what they do at talech. This month’s edition features Brent Patterson, Senior Software Engineer located in Palo Alto, California.
Q. How long have you been at talech?
A. 4 1/2 years
Q. What is your favorite movie?
A. I’ll take a page out of Blake’s book and give you ten: Lost In Translation, Into the Wild, Glory, Swingers, Office Space, Bull Durham, The Other Guys, Moon, The Barbarian Invasions, Shawshank Redemption.
Q. What is your favorite part about working for talech?
A. I always look forward to our team outings (wine tastings, beach days, escape rooms, karaoke, etc.)
Q. If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A. That’s a great way to ruin a good meal, but I’d have to say a full home made Thanksgiving meal is tough to top.
Q. Do you have an office nickname? If so, what is it?
A. Brento
Q. Before working at talech, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
A. I’m not sure if this qualifies as a “job”, but when I was younger I got to be a ball-boy for the Arizona State University basketball team for a couple of years.
Q. What three traits define you?
A. Tall, versatile, and talented (as described by my coworker, Helen)
Q. Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
A. Despite being somewhat tall (6’2″), I am the shortest of men on my dad’s side of the family. My brother, dad, grandfather, cousins, and uncles range in height from 6’3″ all the way to 7 feet tall.
Q. Where is your hometown?
A. I currently live in San Jose, CA.
Q. What is your favorite sports team?
A. San Francisco 49ers
Q. What is the most recent app you’ve downloaded on your phone?
A. 7 Billion Humans – A puzzle game that uses a set of pseudo programming commands to simultaneously control groups of workers.
Q. What does a typical work day look like for you?
A. I get to work around 10am and start with a cup of coffee and granola bar. I split up the work day with walks around the nearby neighborhood and trips to move my car around the 2-hour parking lots. I head home when traffic isn’t too bad (around 7pm). After dinner I read/play with my kids or help them with homework, and then head to bed.
Q. Tell us about the best vacation you have ever gone on.
A. One of my past jobs allowed me to travel to Vietnam. On one particular trip, my wife and I spent some time on a remote island followed by an overnight train to the northern mountains.
Q. What hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
A. I play some sports (basketball, tennis, golf), like going to concerts, and lately I’ve been focusing on getting better at the guitar.
